Apple Intelligence export metadata
When Apple Intelligence is enabled, its on-device model is ready, and the document language is supported, PDF and Word exports automatically add an AI-generated Subject and a short Summary. The model can also select an Author from an explicit byline or supported author metadata in the document. If authorship is unclear, Author stays empty. Your Mac account name is never used as the author.
In Word, the summary appears in the document's Comments property. In PDF, Subject and Author appear in Preview's inspector; the separate summary is embedded in XMP metadata, which Preview does not display. Both formats identify Apple Intelligence as the metadata generator without changing GlyphGlance's creating-application credit.
To review these fields before exporting, open Info (⌘I). The AI-generated section, marked with a sparkles symbol, shows Subject, Author and Summary. It generates them on demand once the preview is ready; you do not need to export first. Not identified means no explicit author was found. If generation is unavailable, Try Again retries without changing the document. The current window's PDF and Word exports reuse the displayed values. Changing the Markdown profile or content language refreshes the generated information. Long summaries wrap and can be selected and copied.
Generation runs locally and may add a short delay to export. Long documents use excerpts from the beginning, middle and end, identified as excerpts in the exported metadata. AI descriptions can be inaccurate; review them before sharing an important document. If the model is unavailable, busy, refuses the request or cannot finish, export continues without AI metadata. The document title and dates are still included. Viewing and Finder Quick Look never require Apple Intelligence, and the source document is not changed.
