Accessible reading
You can enlarge the document with the zoom controls without changing its source. GlyphGlance uses native macOS controls and exposes document headings, lists, tables, and mathematics to assistive technologies.
Task checkboxes report their task name and completion state. They are read-only because GlyphGlance does not edit the document. When a code block, table, or display formula is wider than the available space, use Tab to focus it and the arrow keys to scroll it.
The preview responds to Reduce Motion, Increase Contrast, Reduce Transparency, and Differentiate Without Color in macOS Accessibility settings. It updates while the document is open. Code remains readable without relying only on syntax colors; reduced motion also pauses supported diagram animations.
For assistive reading, Info → Content Language lets you choose the document's language. Automatic uses a lang or language metadata value when available, otherwise offline language detection. Short or uncertain text has an unspecified language. Changing this setting affects only this window, not the app's menus or the original file. It supplies language metadata to assistive technologies; it is not a separate voice selector for the Speech menu.
Every rendered Mermaid diagram has an expandable Description and source section, also available in Quick Look. When the author supplies a title and description, GlyphGlance presents them to screen readers and includes them in PDF exports. Without a description it identifies the diagram and offers its exact source; it does not invent an explanation.
To make your own diagrams easier to understand, add Mermaid's accTitle and accDescr lines:
flowchart LR
accTitle: Document preview pipeline
accDescr: A Markdown file passes to GlyphGlance, which displays a read-only preview.
A[Markdown file] --> B[GlyphGlance] --> C[Read-only preview]
For images, write a useful description between the brackets, for example . Decorative images can use empty brackets. Descriptions should explain the information conveyed, not just the appearance.
In an enlarged diagram window, Escape or Close returns focus to the button that opened it. Search result changes are announced without rereading the whole document.
